Originally written back in the year 2000 this track had sat on a hard drive for 17 years, unloved and forgotten about. In 2017 I though I should dip my toe into the world of releasing music into the digital domains of Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music etc. I reworked the track into a more currently popular heavily compressed electronic music style and released it to see what happens. The experience revealed a lot to me about the way music works as a commodity on the Internet nowadays. What didn't surprise me was that the major labels, as always, dominate all channels. What did surprise me was that I discovered all is not what it seems on the Internet, in particular with regards to views and likes. I was constantly bombarded by offers of 1,000 of likes, views and comments by a huge ammount of companies operating in this area (there are a lot!). It turns out that for a fee you can get even millions of 'fake' views and likes! So much for what we perceive to be real views and you can imagine how many millions of 'fake views' a major label can buy to create a false impression of a tracks popularity. It was a good experience to learn that the big companies take all the money for themselves and independent artists will basically make nothing.
